Sponsored by Conister Bank, this year’s event saw 490 enthusiastic walkers come together to support the Isle of Man’s blind and visually impaired community, raising an incredible £7,000!
Among the many highlights of the day was the debut of our new mascot, EyeRis, who brought an extra dash of fun to the event. The walk covered a beautiful 12-mile stretch from Douglas to Peel, with participants of all ages and backgrounds showcasing their determination and spirit.
This year’s walkers included a 95-year-old participant, proving that age is just a number, and a brave individual who had completed cancer treatment only a month prior to the walk. Stories like these exemplify the resilience and positivity that define this event. We were also moved by the participation of several Sight Matters members, each of whom lives with significant visual impairments, yet tackled the route regardless.
Families, children, and even dogs joined in too! Despite the less-than-perfect weather, the sense of community was palpable, with walkers encouraging one another every step of the way, sharing smiles, laughter, and even a few dance moves with EyeRis.
Cathryn Bradley, our CEO, expressed her heartfelt thanks: "This year's Coast 2 Coast Walk was truly inspiring. Seeing so many people come together for a common cause was heart-warming. Stories like that of our 95-year-old participant and the individual who had just completed radiotherapy remind us that anything is possible. Thanks to everyone who took part and helped us raise over £7,000 to continue our essential work. Your support makes a real difference in the lives of those living with sight loss here on the Isle of Man."
Douglas Grant, Managing Director at Conister Bank and a participant in the walk, echoed these sentiments: “It was a great experience. The event showcased a strong sense of community and resilience. What stood out to me most was how inclusive it was – anyone can participate, regardless of age or fitness level.”
We are deeply grateful to Conister Bank for sponsoring this year’s event, as well as to all the volunteers, participants, and supporters who helped make the day a success. The funds raised will allow Sight Matters to continue providing critical services to those living with sight loss in the Isle of Man.
Thank you for walking with us, and we look forward to seeing you next year.
